"DEHRADUN" JEWEL OF THE SHIVALIK is a unique place well known all over the world for its greenery, picnic spots, cosmopolitan gentry, basmati rice, lichee fruits and public schools. It is the capital of Uttaranchal state. Since it is surrounded by "Himalyas in the North, the Shivalik in the South, Ganges in the East and Yamuna in the West it is also  referred as DOON VALLEY.

Due to its location in the hilly part of the state, the climate of Dehradun is salubrious. During the summer months, the temperature ranges between 36 Degree C and 16.7 Degree C. The winter months are colder with the maximum and minimum temperatures touching 23.4 Degree and 5.2 Degree C respectively.

  • FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE- Museum displaying ancient Fossils  5 kms. from the city centre. One of the finest institutions of its kind in the world, the FRI stands in extensive grounds amongst fine plantations  of many species of forest wealth. The Institute maintains six museums covering  various disciplines that  are open to the public. The campus where the institute is located is called New Forest and it also houses the  headquarters of the Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education and the  Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.

  • TAPKESHWAR TEMPLE- More than 3000 Year old Cave Temple of Shiva on the seasonal river. Here, Water water falls on the Shivling drop by drop from a Rock and hence the name Tabpkeshwar

  • SAHASTRADHARA 14 kms. away, it is noted  for  its  natural   beauty  and  medicinal   waterfalls. Sahastradhara  is  a  very  popular  picnic  and   entertainment  spot.  Connected  by regular city bus services. 

  • ROBBERS CAVE 8 kms. away. Also known as 'Guchu Pani' it is a beautiful  picnic  spot. Local bus  services operate within  one  km.  of  Robbers Cave. 

  • LAKSHMAN SIDDH12 kms. from Dehradun. A shrine built in homage to a saint called Lakshman Siddh, it is also a good picnic spot. On the road to Rishikesh it can be reached by bus services. 

  • DAK PATHER 45 kms. from Doon. It is the site of a hydel  project and has been developed into a  picnic and  recreation centre. Dak Pathar  is connected by regular bus services.

  • LACHHIWALA 13 kms. from Doon.  A  beautiful  picnic spot on the banks of a crystal clear stream surrounded by lush  green  forest.
